ART AND CRAFT IN RED LAKE ONTARIO

by admin on June 24, 2010

On Monday, June 21st at the Heritage Centre in Red Lake Ontario, special guest Linda Lundstrom kicked-off the “Celebrating the Canoe: Honouring the Original Technicians” exhibit happening that week (June 21-26). This reception was in honour of Lundstrom and her creativity, accomplished work, contributions to the community of Red Lake, and her donations to the Heritage Centre collection.

On display that evening was be the very special and one-of-a-kind collectible edition Okichitaakwe LAPARKA which was created in collaboration with world renowned Canadian fibre artist, Juno, and Kaaren Dannenmann of Red Lake. The exhibit also featured samples of the NIICHIIKWEWAK (Nee-chee-kwe-wack) beadwork created by a group of nearly 20 Aboriginal women that was launched by Lundstrom as part of the LAPARKA collection in 1990. A slideshow was shown of Lundstrom’s work over the years.

All of the attendees were invited to bring their LAPARKAs to the event or any Lundstrom fashions you may have acquired over the years as we would like to take an updated group photo.

The “Celebrating the Canoe” event continues until the 26th. For further information contact the Heritage Center
